Al-Bukhari reports that the companion Anas ibn Malik said: "A vessel of water was brought to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in the area of Al-Zawra’. He placed his hand into the vessel, and water began to gush from between his fingers. All the people were able to perform their ablutions with that water."
Qatadah said: "I asked Anas, 'How many were you?' Anas replied, 'We were three hundred, or around three hundred.'"
According to Abu Nu‘aym, in the transmission of Sharik ibn Abi Namir from Anas, Anas himself was the one who brought the vessel of water, having fetched it from the house of Umm Salamah. When he returned the vessel to her, it still contained the original amount of water.
Water sprang from between the fingers of the Prophet ﷺ on multiple occasions. This miracle is considered even more remarkable than the water gushing from a stone, the miracle granted to the Prophet Moses ﷺ. Water springing from rock is a familiar phenomenon in nature, whereas water flowing from between flesh and blood is a miraculous sign granted uniquely to the Prophet ﷺ.
As for Al-Zawra’, Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar states in his work Fath al-Bari that it was a well-known area in Madinah located near the marketplace.
