Located at the back of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, the Ṣuffah was a shelter where the poor and needy among the companions lived. The Prophet ﷺ inaugurated this shelter, where he personally looked after this group of companions. There, they were able to find food, drink, and clothing.
Through education and knowledge, the Prophet ﷺ transformed this group of companions into great scholars. Among them are the greatest narrators of Hadith, such as Abū Hurayrah, Ibn ‘Umar, Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī, Ibn Mas‘ūd, Abū al-Dardā’, and many others.
