The Pillar of ‘A’ishah

This pillar is located in the middle of the noble Rawdah. It is the third pillar from the minbar, the third from the tomb of the Prophet ﷺ, and the third from the Qiblah. At the top of the pillar, on the northern side, it is clearly inscribed: "This is the Pillar of 'Aisha", as shown in the attached photo.

According to some narrations, the Prophet ﷺ prayed at the location of this pillar for about ten days after the shift of the Qiblah, before moving to the spot known today.

In a narration reported by Al-Tabarani, the Mother of the Believers, ‘A’ishah, stated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "In the mosque, there is a spot near this pillar. If people knew its true worth, they would compete with each other to pray there, to the point of drawing lots."

A group of companions and sons of the Muhajirun then asked: "O Mother of the Believers, where is this spot?" However, she did not give them a direct answer.

They waited for a moment and then left, except for ‘Abdallah ibn al-Zubayr, who stayed behind. They said among themselves: "She will surely show him the spot."

They discreetly observed him in the mosque to see where he would pray. After a short while, he stood up and prayed near the pillar by which his son, ‘Amir ibn ‘Abdallah ibn al-Zubayr, prays.

This pillar is also known as: "The Pillar of Drawing Lots" (Ustuwanat al-Qur'ah).
